Leading Coalville lawyers urge support for the region’s abused women

One of the region’s leading law firms is calling on the public to put on their training shoes for a half marathon at Donington Park in aid of a leading charity supporting abused women.

QualitySolicitors Mander Cruickshank is the leading sponsor behind the Donington Park Half Marathon, of which all proceeds go to Living Without Abuse, a charity which has supported vulnerable woman for nearly 40 years.

Kathryn Hicklin, an expert in family law at the firm, which has offices in Coalville and Hinckley, said she hoped the event, which takes place on Sunday November 23 would be well-supported by the public in the region.

“Unfortunately one aspect of family law is we see too much of abuse, whether it be physical, verbal or otherwise,” said Ms Hicklin.

“We hope by sponsoring this event it will highlight the terrific work that has been done and continues to be done by LWA in helping people escape from some incredibly difficult circumstances.”

As well as a half marathon, there will also be a One Lap Run run and a Corporate Team Relay Baton Challenge.

Living Without Abuse head of fundraising Michele Walker said she hoped the event would capture the imagination of people in the region.

“The chance to run around such an iconic track, which has such a monumental meaning for people in this area is something not to be missed,” she said.

“We really hope there is something for everyone on what will be a special day,” she added.

The charity has been in existence since the mid 1970s, but due to government charitable cuts in recent years, is in need of more public help than ever.

“Last year we helped 980 people across North West Leicestershire, Charnwood, Leicester City and Rutland and the demand for help is as great as ever,” she said.
