When a marriage ends in divorce obtaining the all important final order of divorce marks the step on a new chapter in life.
However, it is a common misconception that a divorce ends all ties with your former spouse, and this is simply not true.
A divorce ends the marriage, but it does not end financial ties nor does it end the opportunity for one former spouse to make financial claims against the other in the future. This could mean that future earnings, savings, inheritance or even lottery winnings could be up for grabs by a former spouse.
