Well known face of Coalville law retires
One of Coalville’s best-known business faces has retired, after a generation of being a mainstay of the community
Peter Chadwick, of QualitySolicitors Mander Cruickshank has taken early retirement, leaving the practice last week.
Although heralding from Merseyside, Mr Chadwick has been a solicitor in the town for the past 30 years, having arrived in Leicestershire in the 1970s to study at the former Leicestershire Polytechnic.
Mr Chadwick, who is married to Sarah and has two grown up children Alice and Nick, said whilst sad to be leaving the firm and the profession, he is looking forward to a new chapter.
“It’s been a pleasure to serve the people of this town and I’ve made many friends, so whilst I’m looking forward to the future there is somewhat of a heavy heart,” he said.
He reminisced on the change in his profession, which he said “has changed beyond recognition,” from when he started out in law in Long Eaton.
“It’s hard to believe that I remember typists discussing how they were against electric typewriters,” he said. “That is nothing compared to the way the IT revolution has transformed our industry.
“Like all walks of life some of the transformations have been for the good, but some for the bad,” he said. “Law has changed beyond recognition, but what hasn’t is the good high street solicitor who has always been on the side of the common man, whatever his troubles.”
Mr Chadwick, who is to visit New England in the US later in the year, said he intends to enjoy retirement, where he can pursue his love of rugby, having a strong bond with Ashby RFC and also being an ardent follower of Leicester Tigers.
Jim Abbott, a fellow partner at QualitySolicitors Mander Cruickshank and who helped build up the firm into being the best known in the town today, gave a glowing tribute to his long time compatriot.
“I know I speak for everyone when I say we shall all miss Peter greatly,” he said. “We shall be poorer without his wit and warmth.
“We wish Peter and his family all the best at what is a time of transition and on behalf of QualitySolicitors Mander Cruickshank we can’t thank him enough for the enormous contribution he has made in helping us grow into what we are today.”
